Jerram Falkus are undertaking refurbishment works on this Grade II Listed Building in the heart of the Capital. The site is the flagship building for the University of Westminster.
Given the historic nature of the building and the prominent location, Jerram Falkus have been working closely with the Planning Officer at Westminster City Council.
Located along one of the busiest thoroughfares in Westminster, works include:
- To Repair, Replace or Upgrade 40 individual roofs following surveys.
- Replacement or repair of identified roofs
- Removal of redundant plant.
- Relocation or replacement of rooftop plant as identified in survey reports
- Upgrade and improvements to roof access and safety arrangements incorporating maintenance and cleaning access requirements.
- Installation of PV units to East side roofs.
- Refurbishment and repairs to external wall surfaces.
- Replacement, refurbishment, repairs to windows and skylights.
- Improvements to rainwater and roof drainage systems.
- Repairs to the historical ‘Readograph’
This has been a highly complex project and over the coming months we will be undertaking essential additional structural repairs to the rear external façade.
This will involve a lot of exposing brickwork and steelwork. We also need to rip out two fire escape stairways as in their current state, and even with minor repairs, they would not comply with today’s rigorous health and safety regulations. The work to replace these staircases will allow our team to continue work safely as well as ensuring effective and compliant escape routes in the years to come.
