EKO Pathways School, Newham

We are a London-based construction company who completed and education construction project – the Eleanor Smith School, also known as EKO Pathways, located in the London Borough of Newham. This project was built to provide children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties with a state-of-the-art facility that caters to their unique needs.

The New EKO Pathways School:

The new EKO Pathways School is situated across two sites in the East Ham area of Newham. Our team of new-build specialists constructed a brand-new facility on a previously undeveloped brownfield site. The brownfield site posed a unique challenge, and Jerram Falkus Construction building contractors had to utilise innovative construction techniques to transform it into a state-of-the-art school.

Our expert construction team used cross-laminated timber (CLT) to build the new EKO Pathways School. This material is becoming increasingly popular in the construction industry, as it is sustainable, durable, and has excellent acoustic and thermal insulation properties. The use of CLT in this project allowed us to create generous, flexible classrooms and specialist teaching resource areas, along with break-out spaces for students.

The school’s facilities were designed with the specific needs of children and young people with SEMH in mind. The classrooms are spacious and can be adapted to accommodate different teaching styles and activities. Additionally, there are specialist teaching resource areas where students can receive one-on-one support from teachers and therapists.

The building is fully accessible for students of all ages and abilities, with wider corridors to enable wheelchair access and multiple lifts providing access to all levels. The building features a suite of learning spaces, classrooms, staff offices, and a dining area.

External Landscaping:

Our construction team also took into consideration the importance of external landscaping in providing a conducive learning environment for students. As such, we incorporated extensive external landscaping into the project design, providing students with ample green spaces to play, relax and learn in. Our landscaping design also included outdoor seating areas and outdoor play equipment to ensure that students at the EKO Pathways School can benefit from a safe and natural environment.
