St Clements, Corporation Street

Jerram Falkus undertook the design and construction of new homes for MHS Homes in Rochester. As a trusted residential construction company, Jerram Falkus brought our extensive experience in delivering high-quality housing developments tailored to community needs.

The scheme had originally been started by a previous contractor who went out of business; piles had been installed but the design had not been completed.

We delivered the construction of a reinforced concrete 5 and 6 storey building, with light gauge structural walls with an external skim brickwork façade with external winter gardens.

The internal structure is concrete blockwork on the Ground level with lightweight internal partitioning to remaining floors, internal fitting out for the construction of 44 new independent apartments designed for the over 60’s. Once occupied, these will release much-needed housing stock back to the Medway area for families.

The development has two lifts designed on differing parameters with two stair cores and a ground floor community area for the residents of the development.

There is a new sub-station situated in the car park with heating being provided by air source heat pumps on the roof.

Works also saw the construction of hard and soft landscaping with a car park to the rear of the development which will be linked to the existing carpark from the adjacent block.

St. Clements House in Rochester is considered a benchmark scheme for later living within Medway, providing 44 highly accessible, 100% affordable homes for over-60s. The scheme is designed to address loneliness and promote social interaction between residents, and to improve independence and quality of life for residents.  The homes are designed to for accessibility and are simple to operate, and reduce resident vulnerability to falls.  Each comes with a ‘winter garden’ balcony, which works like a conservatory allowing enjoyment of outdoor space and gardening opportunities while enclosed with single glazing so they can be used comfortably year-round.
