New City College Appointment

Jerram Falkus are delighted to announce that we have been appointed under a Pre-Construction Services Agreement to advance the design of New City College’s Sixth Form Project in Hornchurch.

What is the project?

The project will see the phased demolition of an existing single storey building before the construction of a new two storey teaching block which is an extension to the existing Berners-Lee House on Wingletye Lane.

Plans have been approved under permitted development rights which allowed for a quicker, cheaper and less complex decision process.

The new teaching block will provide 8 additional classrooms, accommodating an increase of up to 200 students utilising the ESFA Post-16 capacity fund.

Sustainability ensured

The development is to be rated BREEAM Excellent, a global standard setting targets for the sustainability of the design, construction and operation of a building project.

Sustainability initiatives will all ensure reduced carbon emissions, a low impact design, ecological value and biodiversity protection.

How is it funded?

The college secured a government grant of £4 million for additional classrooms in recognition of a significant increased demand for student places in April 2023.

This grant will part-fund development – with the remainder being funded by New City College itself.

Construction on the new block is due to start around April this year and the expected completion date for the classrooms and other works is set to be March 2025.
