A Day in the Life of a Site Manager on a Residential Construction Project

Dominic Chambers is a Trainee Site Manager on a residential construction project for our Employer, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

He is based at our Shetland Road site, which will provide 19 new build low energy homes in Bow, East London.

Dominic studied the Level 5 Construction Management (Sustainability) qualification and is currently completing the final year of his degree at Westminster University.

What does a standard day for a residential construction site manager look like?

A typical working day for Dominic will involve completing paperwork, ensuring there are no Health & Safety issues, supervising trades onsite and programming the works being carried out.

“I have developed an in-depth insight into construction whilst working on this project – every day there’s something new to learn and no two days are the same. I have learnt so much about underground services, something I have studied but never experienced in practice. I’m looking forward to the future and this role is a great opportunity for me to put my learning into action.”

He feels that for this role, you must understand that you have to constantly work to deadlines, be organised, have great leadership and people management skills and most importantly, be resilient!

Dominic aspires to progress to a Senior Site Manager once he is qualified.
