Wanstead High School and Leisure Centre, Wanstead

This £13.5m contract will see the construction of a new building serving both Wanstead Leisure Centre and Wanstead High School.

The London Borough of Redbridge appointed Jerram Falkus as main contractor on the East London scheme which will include a swimming pool and several improvements to the existing leisure estate.

The scope of work includes the creation of a 4,200 sqm three-storey building built over three blocks. Block B will consist of 14 new classrooms and associated facilities with a dining hall and commercial kitchen. Block C, the existing leisure centre, will be extended to include a 25m swimming pool, dance studios, a new reception area and changing rooms to suit the new facility. Refurbishment works to parts of the existing leisure centre will occur in Block D. These works will complement the new construction adjacent to the centre.

External works will also be undertaken to improve the appearance of the site and present an up-to-date facility.

The new and improved facilities will benefit both Wanstead High School and the local community.

The project has all the challenges that come with operating on a live school site. We have been working closely with the school and local community to ensure that our works are programmed in such a way as to minimise disruption. Above all, we are committed to keeping the public and our staff healthy and safe.

Wanstead High School and Leisure Centre

Practical completion is expected to be achieved by January 2026.
