The Learning Hub at St Christopher’s Hospice, Sydenham

St Christopher’s Hospice provides skilled and compassionate end-of-life care and bereavement support of the highest quality, combining specialist care, research and education. Jerram Falkus was appointed to work on the construction of this educational project for the healthcare industry.

The Learning Hub project for the Hospice which will provide;

  • A flexible lecture space for up to 120 people, which can divide into three smaller teaching rooms to accommodate multiple groups at a time
  • An open welcoming foyer space for conducting public events and concerts
  • A Skills Lab for practical training, with beds and teaching space
  • E-learning and personal study space
  • An information service including library and bookshop for access to specialist publications and up to date information on topics relating to end of life care
  • Embedded webinar, conferencing and other technology to enhance learning and widen access nationally and internationally
  • Meeting rooms.

The works are comprised of two phases:

Phase 1 – design and construction of a new steel frame building which will be clad in glass, brick and polycarbonate cladding along with an internal fit-out to create teaching spaces and associated facilities.

Phase 2 – Demolition of existing Education Centre to enable a new car park (58 spaces) to be created to the south of the site.

The new building construction will benefit healthcare  as it will enable the Hospice to train more people to deliver high quality end of life care. The training provided by the Learning Hub will be for professionals, as well as wider community members including family, friends and carers.
